Burbank Chimney & MasonryRestorationSpanish Revival, Storybook and Traditional homes from Magnolia Park to the Rancho

Burbank's 1920s–50s homes have chimneys with real character: stucco-wrapped brick, decorative tops and arched fireboxes trimmed in handmade tile. We repair them without losing what makes them special, replace the ones that aren't safe, and build the walls and courtyards around them.

What we do

Chimney and fireplace work that respects the house

An older Burbank home deserves repairs that match: the right stucco texture, the right cap shape, and the original tile left intact.

Character Chimney Restoration

Decorative tops, arched cap openings and sculpted stucco rebuilt to the original shape when they crack or loosen.

  • Custom caps and chimney pots
  • Original profiles matched
  • Spark screens hidden in the design

Stucco Chimney Repair

Cracked stucco lets water reach the brick inside, which slowly weakens it. We repair the brick first, then patch and texture the stucco to blend in.

  • Crack repair and re-stucco
  • Texture and color matched
  • Hidden brick damage fixed

  • Firebox rebuilds in refractory brick
  • Loose tiles reset, not replaced
  • Hearth repair

Seismic Chimney Replacement

Heavy brick above the roofline can be replaced with a framed, stucco-finished chimney and a metal flue. From the street it looks the same, and it weighs far less.

  • Cut-down below the roofline
  • Framed chase with listed flue
  • Stucco and cap finished to match

Flashing on Tile Roofs

Where a chimney meets a clay tile roof, flashing has to be shaped carefully. We fix leaks without breaking the tiles around it.

  • Tile lifted and reset carefully
  • Shingle roofs too

What we see in Burbank's older homes

Hairline cracks in stucco chimneys

Small cracks let water reach the brick underneath, and you only see the damage when the stucco starts to bulge.

Arched caps coming loose

Decorative tops are heavy and exposed. They're usually the first part to shift.

Loose or cracked hearth tile

Original tile can often be lifted, cleaned and reset instead of replaced.

Quake history

Sylmar in 1971 and Northridge in 1994 both shook Burbank. Many chimneys still carry cracks from them.

How we replace a heavy brick chimney

When the brick above the roof isn't worth saving, a lighter chimney is a smart upgrade. Here's how it goes.

ASSESS

Inspect & photograph

We check the brick, mortar, flue and roof connection and walk you through what we find.

CUT DOWN

Remove the heavy part

Brick is taken down to below the roofline, and debris is lowered and hauled away.

REBUILD

Framed chimney

A wood-framed chase with a listed metal flue goes up on the existing base.

FINISH

Match the house

Stucco texture, color and a decorative cap make it look like it was always there.

Walls & courtyards

Hillside walls, Rancho block and courtyard brick

From the Burbank Hills below the Verdugos to the horse properties of the Rancho, we build and repair the masonry that holds Burbank yards together.

Hillside retaining walls

Stone and block walls with proper drainage for sloped lots in the Burbank Hills.

Rancho block walls & pillars

Block walls and gate pillars for Rancho district properties.

Tile & brick steps

Spanish-style tile steps and brick stairs reset and repaired.

Courtyards & patios

Brick courtyards relaid, repointed and leveled where roots and settling have lifted them.

FAQ

Burbank chimney questions

Something specific about your home? Call (747) 242-2924.

My chimney is covered in stucco. Is there brick underneath?

In most older Burbank homes, yes. Stucco was applied over a brick chimney. Cracks in the stucco let water reach the brick, so repairs usually mean fixing the brick and then re-stuccoing to match.

Can my original tile fireplace surround be saved?

Usually. Firebox repairs can often be done from inside without disturbing the tile face. Loose tiles can be carefully removed, cleaned and reset with matching grout.

What is a seismic chimney replacement?

The heavy masonry above the roofline is removed and replaced with a wood-framed chase and a listed metal flue, finished in stucco to match the house. It's far lighter in an earthquake and keeps the look of a chimney.

Will you damage my clay tile roof?

We lift and set aside tiles around the chimney before flashing work, then reset them carefully. Broken tiles are replaced with matching ones where available.

Do you build retaining walls in the Burbank Hills?

Yes. We build and repair block and stone retaining walls with drainage behind them for sloped lots. Larger walls may need permits and engineering, which we can help coordinate.

Can you match a decorative chimney cap?

Yes. We rebuild arched and sculpted chimney tops in masonry and stucco, and can hide a spark screen within the design.

When can I call?

Call any weekday or Saturday between seven in the morning and seven at night. Sundays we rest.
